PLAYER RATINGS: Brighton 1-1 Spurs

Whilst I hold a soft spot for Chris Hughton and Brighton, it is safe to say I was thoroughly disappointed by our performance tonight. There are arguments that we have one eye on the FA Cup this weekend but even so that should provide no excuse for the sloppiness on show at the Amex. The First Half passed by without any events of note, aside from a smart stop from Mat Ryan from a decent Sonny effort. The Second Half provided instant action after a defensive error from Brighton, combined with wonderful feet from Son set up Harry to smash the ball in from 5 yards out. However, as soon as the dust was settled, it seemed Brighton had instantly got into the Spurs area and Serge (as he is prone to do) lunged in carelessly and gave away a penalty which Hugo almost kept out but was just beaten by Gross. The rest of the Second Half passed without many memorable incidents and we managed to leave the AMEX with a point that was ultimately deserved but disappointing. Hopefully we’ll manage to bring our A-Game for the FA Cup this weekend, COYS!

PLAYER RATINGS

LLORIS – 6
Almost managed to keep out the penalty. Little else to do apart from that.

AURIER – 5
Was having a solid game but always manages to have a rush of blood to the head at the most inopportune moments. Talented but really needs to improve his decision making in his own penalty area.

JAN – 6
Solid game, not really troubled too much by the Brighton Attack. Will be disappointed at allowing Brighton to score so quickly after our goal.

TOBY – 6
No rust on the Belgian as he returned for his first start since February. Was largely untroubled throughout, always a reassuring presence at the back.

DAVIES – 6
Solid but unspectacular. Wasted a good crossing opportunity 20 minutes in and had his hands full with Knockaert who looked threatening.

WANYAMA – 6
Provided a rock solid presence next to the shaky Sissoko. Always eager to win the ball back, though his distribution could improve.

SISSOKO (SUBBED 73) – 4
Woeful yet again from a player who looks like he should be playing in the Championship 9 times out of 10. On the basis of this performance, doesn’t deserve to start another game this season.

SON – 6.5
Quiet first half but provided a magic moment with his twinkling toes to set up Harry for the goal. Not quite back to electric form but always capable of providing highlights.

LUCAS (SUBBED 73) – 6.5
Arguably our most dangerous player in the first half (although that isn’t saying much). Showed some flashes but wasn’t consistently threatening. Can be happy with his performance though.

ERIKSEN – 5
Surprisingly poor game from the Dane. His passing looked off the pace and demonstrated an oddly imperfect first touch. Given his sparkling form recently, its not hard to forgive one poor game.

KANE (SUBBED 83) – 5.5
Not the finest performance from our favourite number 10. Got a goal which I think he really needed as he looked short on confidence and very lethargic all night. Seemed to have trouble keeping his footing on a slippery Amex pitch. Hopefully he’ll return to his normal self this weekend.

SUBS:

LAMELA (ON FOR LUCAS) – 6
Knocked the ball round nicely but should’ve done a little better when given a chance instead of shooting straight at the keeper.

DEMBELE (ON FOR SISSOKO) – 6
Should’ve started instead of Sissoko but not really able to get a chance to influence the game.

LLORENTE (ON FOR KANE) – N/A
