Potential Arrivals and Departures…

Without looking terrible and despite showing some promising signs in both of our opening games this season, we have only a solitary point. Ok, as I wrote previously, away to Man Utd is almost a ‘throwaway’ fixture and one in which we never traditionally get anything from except rotten luck and a foul taste in the mouth (Pedro Mendes anyone?).

The two goal collapse at Stoke is again something we have been guilty of on many occasions in the not too distant past and considering they beat us in the same fixture last time round, a point can be viewed as not too disheartening at this early stage. While I am not forecasting impending doom, far from it in fact, we should still have had a better start to the season thus far.

The incredibly apparent shift in Saturday’s game once Harry Kane was removed only served to underline where we are falling short. I wrote in my last article that we required two or maybe three quick forward players and boy do we. Having since signed the young Cameroonian international Clinton N’Jie from Lyon the club are moving things along, perhaps a bit slowly but that is clearly because we are waiting on certain players departing.

Roberto Soldado’s departure last week should see some more rapid progress on the striker front. Saido Berahino would be a welcome addition but I feel West Brom value him too highly, time will tell if we can broker a deal for the promising England man.

Emmanuel Adebayor and Aaron Lennon are sitting in the departure lounge and once their wages have been removed from the bill we may see some more arrivals. This could be too late and may cost us more points in the coming weeks however. The manager was quoted after the Stoke match saying we need one or maybe two more forwards and with the chairman’s love of a late deadline day steal we must wait with bated breath to see how many incomings we will have and who they will be.

Here is a realistic list of five players I would like us to be considering bringing to the Lane before the deadline. Two of these guys and problems solved. Maybe. Hopefully.

Pierre Emerick Aubemayang (Dortmund) Super speedster but is he available?

Javier Hernandez (Man U) Top draw goal poacher. Won’t move unless Utd sign a top striker.

Diaffra Sakho (West Ham) Not been linked and would like us to test Hammers resolve.

Jose Callejon (Napoli) Very consistent performer at high level. Wouldn’t be too costly at 28.

Seydou Doumbia (Roma) Pure power and speed. Hasn’t performed since move to Serie A.
