Should Ryan Sessegnon be our number one target?

The provocative comments in The Sun newspaper from Danny Rose at the start of the season caused uproar amongst supporters which many felt was a ploy designed by Rose and his Representatives to force the club to sell him to Manchester United.

Sir Alan Sugar said that if this had happened at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson that Rose would have been booted out of the club which many would agree with as Rose’s comments smacked of being ungrateful and a betrayal to the club having only the year before agreeing to extend his contract until 2021.

It is inevitable that Rose will leave the club by the end of the season so who should be our number one target to replace him?

In the absence of Rose for the majority of last year, Ben Davies grasped his chance and contributed well in helping us reach 2nd in the league in which we went on an outstanding run of only 2 defeats in the last 15 Premier League games and also our defence proving to be the strongest in the Premiership with the least amount of goals conceded. Although lacking the pace of Rose and not as robust in tackling, he has proved to be equally as effective contributing with assists and goals.

Fulham’s Ryan Sessegnon is a highly sought-after prospect at 17 years old with ironically Manchester United one of a few clubs including us linked with signing him. With 7 goals this season, he clearly has an eye for goal as he demonstrated against Sheffield United this season with his first hat-trick and could prove a great investment as Gareth Bale proved to be having signed for us at a similar age. having a bet on England including Sessegnon in their World Cup squad this summer.

Perhaps Sessegnon should be our number one target as a replacement for Rose as he would fit into our philosophy of investing in good young players and I believe under the tutelage of Pochettino would flourish whether it be as a wing-back or left-back. Pochettino’s growing reputation proven at Southampton and now with Spurs of giving young players a chance to develop in the 1st team would surely give us a chance of being in pole position ahead of our rivals.
