Spurs v Everton – Match preview

According to Poch’s press conference Eriksen’s out of Saturday’s home game against the Toffees but Townsend’s available; doesn’t seem like much of a good deal to me.

Perhaps more pertinently the news that Alex Pritchard has had another good week surely means that he must be ready by now to play the role most of us thought he would fulfil this season, as a replacement for the great Dane whenever the latter needed a break for some reason. If the manager does intend to use Pritchard in this way this weekend it’s unlikely to be from the start. One would normally pencil in Lamela as Eriksen’s replacement despite our record signing’s continued very average performances but the interest from Inter Milan, the signing of N’Jie and the goal scoring cameo against Leicester of Dele Alli put this into doubt. I think there’s a fair chance that Alli will start with Erik, N’Jie and maybe Pritchard on the bench.

Kane, Chadli and Dembélé will keep their places along with Mason, Dier, Walker, Toby and Vertonghen. Rose should finally displace Davies surely?

Everton’s first three games of the season have included a surprising draw, a surprising win and a predictable loss. They have been quiet during the window but (so far anyway) have kept Stones and McCarthy which they’ll be pleased with. If Man Utd keep De Gea, Stones stays at Goodison and Berahino has to refollow the Baggies official twitter account then it’ll represent in many ways a significant victory over millionaire player power. Perhaps they’ll start taking their contracts seriously. Yeah right.

With Baines absent Everton are even more reliant on Lukaku’s power for goals despite Kone’s return to fitness and favouritism. Barkley looks more dangerous than he did last year though; he’s a fine player when on form.

I believe Poch is serious when he says that he’s pleased with the performances so far, he’ll be feeling the heat though if they’re not backed up by a positive result, and by that I mean a win, on Saturday.

The signing of N’Jie and Son and the League Cup and European draws has upped the excitement and anticipation levels, a good win against Everton with the possibility of more movement before the end of Tuesday afternoon (“Wanyama make those eyes at me for?”) will make the future look even sweeter.
