Crouch hoping for more England chances

Peter Crouch is hoping that his brace against Belarus on Wednesday will make Fabio Capello take notice of his ability ahead of next year’s World Cup.

Crouch’s two goals, either side of Shaun Wright-Phillips’ strike, secured a 3-0 victory for England and he hopes that his performance might warrant more appearances under Capello.

With Wayne Rooney and Jermain Defoe absent through injury, Crouch took his chances, to give him a tally of 16 goals in his 17 starts for his country, with 18 goals overall in the Three Lions.

“It was quite enjoyable. It is good to finish the qualifying campaign on a winning note at Wembley and take that into the World Cup.

“For me personally I was pleased to get a couple of goals.

“Have I given the manager a bit of food for thought? Yes. All I can do when given the opportunity is to try to take it and the goals help. Hopefully my performance has given him something to think about.

“People keep asking me that question and I seem to always be saying that. I am pleased with the way it went.

“But we have got some fantastic competition for places, certainly in the striking area and all I can do is score goals and hopefully get a chance.

“We’ve got guys out injured at the moment and it would be nice to play a couple more games, but it is back to teh club now and I shall be concentrating on things at Tottenham.

“We’ve had a fantastic record in the qualifying group and hopefully we can take that through to the World Cup now.”
