Southgate hails Pochettino methods

Mauricio Pochettino’s work with a number of key performers at Tottenham can only benefit the England football team , according to national team boss Gareth Southgate.

A win from either of their remaining qualifiers against Slovenia and Lithuania this coming week will guarantee a place at the 2018 World Cup in Russia

In-form Harry Kane, as well as Dele Alli and Eric Dier, will play important roles for England in Russia. The trio have really kicked on under Pochettino and Southgate credits the Spurs manager and his backroom staff, for having the trio in supreme physical shape.

Speaking with Four Four Two magazine Southgate said “The biggest change [for Kane] has been physical,”

“Since Mauricio has been there the conditioning work they do has improved the team and Harry has benefited from that.
“He looks strong, lean, a little bit quicker and sharper. The biggest change has been physical, and then that has an effect on your mentality.

Southgate continued “If you know you’re in good physical condition then mentally you’re in a better place.
“It was the same at Southampton. I know Jesus, Mauricio’s assistant, is in charge of that area of their training, and we noticed a definite difference that allowed them to play the pressing game they want to play.
“There was a definite impact on all the Spurs players from their club training.”

A ringing endorsement then for Pochettino, his staff and their training methods from the England manager. Our managers preference to blood young English players means he will have an important role in how the England team develops in the coming years. Harry Winks can’t be far off his full England debut.
