Alderweireld making progress

Toby Alderweireld has returned to running on the Hotspur Way training pitches as the defender steps up his recovery from a hamstring injury.

An article in The London Evening Standard says the Belgium international is still expected to be sidelined until the start of February, but his return to the training pitch will be a welcome boost for Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino.

The club posted on their Twitter account on Thursday confirming that Alderweireld “has commenced running work outdoors this week as he continues his recovery.”

It adds however there was no adjustment to a recovery time line that means Alderweireld is set to miss big games against West Ham and Manchester United, as well as facing something of a race to recover in time for the resumption of Spurs’ European campaign, with of course a trip to Juventus set for February 13th

It concludes that we have kept just two clean sheets in their last eight games, in all of which they have been without Alderweireld however it’s some welcome news to see him return.
