Alderweireld not in Spurs match day squad for trip to Stoke

The Daily Mail says that Toby Alderweireld has been left out of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad again for Saturday’s match at Stoke further placing his future at Spurs in further doubt.

Despite playing a full ninety minutes for his country a few days before he was excluded from last week’s 3-1 win at Chelsea and has not featured in the Premier League since October.

The article adds that the Belgium centre back is not injured but Mauricio Pochettino does not feel his form is good enough to oust Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen from the centre of his defence.

Alderweireld picked up thigh injury against Real Madrid and it kept him out between October and early February, but his continued absence leaves his place in Belgium’s World Cup side World Cup in doubt and of course his Spurs future too

The 29-year-old has been restricted to just ten Premier League appearances this season, largely owing to injury, and hasn’t featured in the top flight since the defeat to Manchester United in October.

His last appearance for the club was in the FA Cup draw against Rochdale on February 18th and speculation is gathering apace that he could leave the club this summer, when he will have just a year left to run on his contract.
