Alderweireld: Still Waiting For Contract Offer

Toby Alderweireld has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have not yet offered him a new contract at the club, amidst rumours over his future in North-London.

Over the past month, speculation has been building over whether or not Spurs will be able to keep hold of their key players. Despite tying down many squad members to new contracts, Toby Alderweireld’s future at the club has yet to be confirmed.

As is the nature of pre-season speculation, rumours developed suggesting that the defender had in fact rejected an offer form Spurs with the Belgian international eyeing up a move to a new club in the Summer.

Today however, Alderweireld responded to those claims, telling journalist Niels Poissonnier, a writer at HetLaatsteNieuws, that no offer has even been made yet. He said:

“I’m still waiting for a contract proposal, but in my mind I’m playing for Spurs next season.”

After verbally reaffirming his commitment to Spurs with the Belgian media, the 28 year old then spoke to SkySports and once again calmly dismissed the transfer talk as mere ‘rumours’.

“There is no talk now, so it’s all rumours, because if there’s no talk there’s no rejection as well. We will see in the future how it will go.”
