Arsenal legend claims Kane was released for being “a bit chubby”

They’re always on about him being a “gooner” first well Harry Kane was released by Arsenal as an eight-year-old because he was a ‘bit chubby’, that according to former Arsenal academy boss Liam Brady.

Brady however admits the club made a mistake in allowing him to leave.”He was a bit chubby, he wasn’t very athletic but we made a mistake”: Brady told Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera.
‘But Tottenham sent him out on loan to lower division clubs three or four times as well.’

Kane was released by Arsenal at the age of eight but has gone on to reach dazzling heights for their rivals. He has scored 101 goals in the Premier League and his latest was the winner in the north London derby on Saturday, his seventh in his last seven games against the auld enemy.

Brady spent nine years with Arsenal as a player between 1971 and 1980 and was then hired as director of the Arsenal academy between 1996 and 2014 and Brady revealed that Kane was let go because he did not meet the athletic standards required at the time, but admits it has proven to be a huge mistake.

Speaking ahead of Spurs’ Champions League last 16 encounter with Juventus on Tuesday, Brady said: “That boy has a character that drives him to always improve,’ added the Irishman. After (Lionel) Messi, (Cristiano) Ronaldo and (Robert) Lewandowski there is him.
‘The numbers say it. And he’s only 24 years old.’
