Danny Rose Makes Plea For World Class Signing

In an interview with BBC Radio 5 Live, Tottenham full-back Danny Rose has cried out for Spurs to add depth to their squad with a Champions League quality signing.

Tottenham broke the record for their highest ever Premier League points tally this season, finishing on 86 points, usually a title winning tally. Despite this, Spurs finished second, having failed to win a trophy for a 9th year running. Tottenham also made early exits in both European competitions and were knocked out of the FA Cup by Champions Chelsea in the semi finals.

When speaking on Friday, Rose revealed his opinion on the future of Harry Kane and what the club can do to convince key players to stay at Tottenham. However, Rose also offered insight on what he wants the club to do to finally win some silverware. Rose said:

“We could have a bit of a better squad, depth in the squad. Thankfully, nothing has ever happened to Dele [Alli] since he’s come to the club – imagine if that happened. Or if Christian [Eriksen] got injured.”

“We’ve been lucky with Lamela being injured for large parts of the season and going to a back three so we’ve fit Christian and Dele in without any problems and Sonny [Heung-min Son]. We could have a bigger and better depth in the squad.”

Danny Rose himself has been injured since January and was recently ruled out of action until the start of the next season in August.

Manchester City have already landed one big name signing, Bernardo Silva from Monaco for a reported £43 million. Though Rose acknowledged how difficult it is for Tottenham to compete with their wealthy rivals in the transfer market, he also cried out for Spurs to make one similar ‘marquee’ signing, as well as pursuing youth. Rose said:

“It’s difficult for us as a club to compete with City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. The aim for the club should be to find the next Dele. I know it’s easier said than done but to find someone from the lower leagues and make them a star.”

“For the next season coming, we have to do a lot better in the Champions League and make one marquee signing that can help us push forward.”
