Darren Bent claims Mourinho still cannot trust Spurs first-teamer

Darren Bent has insisted Tottenham manager Jose Mourinho cannot place his trust in defender Serge Aurier.

Bent admitted that Aurier has improved his performance since the return of the Premier League following the lockdown but not enough to gain the trust of his manager.

The former Spurs striker has said Mourinho must look to strengthen his side this summer with defensive weaknesses clear to see.

“I’m pretty sure Mourinho is there thinking: ‘What else can I do?’ He can only use the players at his disposal,” Bent told Football.Insider.

“Listen, the last couple of games I think Aurier’s been okay – yes, you still can’t trust him 100 per cent but I think he’s been better than he has been.

“I think Mourinho at the end of the season, I do fear for them because I’m not sure how much business they can do that’s going to completely and drastically change Spurs’ fortunes.”

Spurs right-back, Kyle Walker-Peters was allowed to leave on a short-term loan to Southampton in January and has since impressed the Saints manager, Ralph Hassenhuttl.

With a lack of competition following a back injury to youngster Japhet Tanganga, Aurier has gone on to make 28 appearances this season for Spurs in the Premier League (transfermarkt).

Despite how good Aurier can be, we all know he has an absolute clanger in him. He has shown in the past just how reckless he can be which is worrying for a man of his experience. The right-back position is certainly one we need to address in the summer.
