Eric Dier sends tweet to Tottenham fans after signing new long-term contract

Eric Dier has taken to social media to celebrate his new contract with Spurs this week after enjoying somewhat of a resurgence under Jose Mourinho.

The central-defender put pen to paper to extend his stay at Tottenham until 2024 with his original deal set to expire in the summer of 2021 (THFC).

Dier made it apparent this season that he views his future in football at his original position of central-defence after a number of years playing as a defensive midfielder (Goal).

With a photo of him at Hotspur Way, Dier captioned his tweet with: ‘Same club, new chapter’ as he looks ahead to a new era in his Tottenham career.

Under new boss Jose Mourinho, Dier has got his wish and has impressed since returning to defence alongside both Toby Alderweireld and Davinson Sanchez.

The partnership was put on hold after Dier received a four-match ban for jumping into the stands after the FA Cup defeat to Norwich earlier in the year (BBC).

Dier has now served his four-game ban and will be available for selection against Crystal Palace for the last game of the season.

However, Sanchez and Toby Alderweireld have also proved a formidable pairing having only conceded just two goals in the four games Dier has missed (Transfermarkt).

Spurs Web Opinion

Dier has really impressed me since returning to defence. I have to admit, a few months ago I did not know where his future lied at Tottenham but he seems completely rejuvenated since returning to defence and it has certainly impressed me. It will be interesting to see if Alderweireld makes way for Dier now or whether Mourinho will try a back three.
