Eriksen’s special 2017

Speaking to the club website Christian Eriksen picked out our victory over Champions League holders Real Madrid as one of his standout moments of 2017 after once again being named Danish Football Player of the Year.

Our number 23 was given Danish’s football’s most prestigious honour – the equivalent of the PFA prize in England – for a fourth time in five years on Sunday night, putting him level with all-time Great Dane Brian Laudrup for the highest amount of times one individual has claimed the award.

“I feel very pleased and humbled to have received this prize again,”:said Christian, who became the first player in history to win the award three years in a row between 2013 and 2015.

Christian added: “It’s been a very good year with some nice moments and the fact that this award is voted for by other players makes it mean something extra, so it’s a very nice feeling.”

The article goes on to say Christian was asked to pick out his favourite moments from the last calendar year, he continued: “There’s been loads! Everything from playing and winning against Real Madrid in the Champions League – which is a big one – to scoring a hat-trick for my national team against Ireland and getting to the World Cup, which was another proud moment.

“The news that I’m going to be starting a family was a very big moment away from football, but there were a lot of nice games throughout the year. There are too many top moments to really pick out one.”

The article adds how Ex-Bayern Munich, Fiorentina and Rangers star Laudrup won his four awards over an eight-year period between 1989 and 1997, but with time on Christian’s side, he looks well placed to set a new outright record in future and asks how does the 25-year-old feel about being mentioned in the same sentence as Laudrup, who was part of Denmark’s Euro 92-winning squad.

“Everybody in Denmark looked up to him when he was playing,” said Christian. “Everyone knows about him and he’s done some incredible things, so having won the trophy as many times as him is a big thing.”
