Fiorentina – Match preview

Next up Fiorentina. Can anyone stop Pochettino’s runaway express train of a team? Well yes – possibly a side that’s riding high in the Italian league with an astute manager and an experienced and skillful side.

Seven wins on the spin now for us since that unlucky result against Leicester at WHL in mid-January but tonight will see as big a threat to that run as we have seen since….last Sunday afternoon.

This piece from Four Four Two gives an insight into what’s been going on in Florence since we lost to them last year. Lots of changes apparently; manager, strikers and midfield general and playing style but they will provide a big threat. They too played last Sunday coming from behind to beat Inter Milan 2-1 in the last minute. Three sendings off in the closing stages of that game, sounds like a humdinger.

People have been talking about ‘sacking off’ the Europa League in favour of the other competitions we’re involved in but it’s very hard to see this happening, despite Pochettino pretty much doing the same thing last year when he preferred Soldado over Kane just prior to the league cup final against Chelsea. Like a master puppeteer Poch gives the impression that he feels he’s puling the strings of his young players just perfectly at present. He’ll feel that there’s no reason that he doesn’t have the strength in depth to get a draw at least tonight in Italy and still turn over Palace on Sunday despite the absence of Lloris. I expect a strong side to be named.

The match officials are from Germany.
