The Fullback Conundrum – Part 2

Kyle Walker vs Kieran Trippier (vs DeAndre Yedlin)
Pochettino looks far more settled with his first choice right back. Kyle Walker has started every premier league so far this season. Although I feel long term Pochettino will have a big decision to make, Kieran Trippier was clearly bought as direct competition.
The Argentine bought the full back aged 25, he clearly believes he has the quality and maturity to play in our first team. In addition if Pochettino is following his strong belief in young players, why wouldn’t he have promoted a youth team right back? Do we not have a good enough right back within the youth squads, or is Kieran Trippier meant to be the main man in the next 12 months or so?
The main reason I question the right full back role is due to the age similarity of Kyle and Kieran; so where does all this leave DeAndre Yedlin? The American is currently 22 years old and on loan at a struggling Sunderland side. Tottenham fans will be hoping for a similar story to the successful loan of Danny Rose to the Stadium of Light ( Sadly I feel under Sam Allaydyce he may not learn as much as Pochettino would have hoped as Sam’s football isn’t possesion based). I believe that Yedlin will be given his chance next summer and pre-season before you see the decision made on his future.
Hopefully more will become clear as the fixture list becomes more condensed and therefore demanding. Spurs fans will just hope Mauricio Pochettino’s decisions at fullback are not forced through injury.
