Have Spurs found Alderweireld replacement

According to talkSPORT we appear to have been handed a boost ahead of the transfer window with reports that our top target Matthijs de Ligt wants to leave Ajax this summer.

The 18-year-old Dutchman has been linked as a possible replacement for Toby Alderweireld, who is widely expected to leave after failing to agree a new contract

The article adds that De Ligt is one of the brightest young talents in the Netherlands and is in-demand ahead of the summer transfer window with Premier League champions Manchester City also having been linked with the Holland international, as have Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

It goes on to say that interested clubs have all been put on alert by reports from Dutch daily newspaper De Telegraaf, which claim De Ligt is ready to leave Ajax when the transfer window opens.

De Telegraaf claim the versatile defender is disappointed by the Amsterdam giants’ lack of titles in recent years.

De Ligt’s contract at the Amsterdam Arena runs until 2021, and the article says manager Erik ten Hag must now decide whether to keep the youngster at the club against his will or cash in for the right price.

Recent reports have claimed Tottenham want to sign De Ligt as the Belgian’s replacement and are preparing a £45million offer.

The article concludes by saying our pursuit could be boosted by our good relationship with Ajax, having paid £42m to sign defender Davinson Sanchez from the Amsterdam club last summer.
