Injury Update: Erik Lamela

Injured Spurs winger Erik Lamela could be set for a longer stay on the side-lines than initially feared, according to SkySources.

The 25 year old sustained a hip injury in October last year during Tottenham’s 2-1 League Cup defeat to Liverpool and since then has undergone surgery numerous times, most recently in April.

Alongside team-mate Danny Rose, the Argentine forward was expected to miss the start of the season and possibly return as late as September.

Today, however, SkySources have suggested that Spurs may be without the long-term absentee until as long as Winter, which would mean Lamela will have been unavailable for over a year.

Lamela’s unfortunate injury also coincided with a personal issue home in Argentina, for which Lamela was allowed to leave the squad.

The winger also spent time in Italy with his former club Roma, from whom Spurs signed Lamela for £30 million in 2013, in order to further treat his injury.

However, this news is yet to be confirmed by the club. I do trust SkySources though, it must be said. Besides, Tottenham aren’t the best at keeping us up to speed with recovery periods.
