According to Sky Sports Harry Kane has said consistency for the club is more important to him than retaining the Premier League Golden Boot.
Liverpool hotshot Mohamed Salah looks likely to take the top goalscorer award, as he has a three-goal lead over Harry going into the final weekend of the season, having already matched the all-time Premier League record of 31 goals in a league season in his first year at Anfield
However the almost certainty of missing out on a third award in a row doesn’t bother Kane who says he’s more concerned about the improvements he’s made to his game.
“It’s been another good year, another consistent year and hopefully I can score a few more and try to get to that 30 goal mark in the Premier League,”:he told Sky Sports.
“I’m happy, it’s been a good season, it’s been consistent over the whole season. There’s been rare spells where I’ve not scored, I always try to improve and where I can get better and I’ve done better than last year.
He added: “Of course, I want to retain the boot but consistency is the most important thing for me, getting 25-plus goals in the Perrier League season after season. And there’ll always be payers who come and do well. Mo’s had a fantastic year, who knows what’ll happen, but for me it’s about doing it year after year.”
We’ve had a well publicised 10th year without a trophy, missing out again in the FA Cup semi-finals and losing in the last-16 of the Champions League at Wembley, although a third successive season of Champions League football was assured with a 1-0 win over Newcastle in midweek and Kane feels it helps balance the disappointment of missing out on silverware.
“Obviously we’d have loved to have won a trophy this year but the way the club is progressing and going into the new stadium, it was really important we got in the top four,”:Kane added. “It’s such a big stage, and with some top, top players we want to be playing on that stage. It’s tough to put a mark on the season. It’s been a good season, a really good season.
He added: “Playing at Wembley was never going to be easy, a lot of people wrote us off early on to get in the Champions league because of it.We played 38 games away from home, really, in a league which is really competitive, especially the top six. People underestimate that, and what we’ve done but I’d give it a good eight out of 10.”
