Kane main focus must not be catching Salah

Harry Kane must not make winning the Golden Boot his main focus as the club fight for the FA Cup and a spot in the top four, according to Dele Alli.

Harry has targeted overhauling Mohamed Salah as the Premier League’s top scorer, although the Liverpool forward scored his 30th league goal of the season in Saturday’s 3-0 win over Bournemouth, moving him five clear of Kane, who was frustrated in Spurs 3-1 defeat to Manchester City.

Kane scored seven goals in the final two matches of last season to secure a second consecutive Golden Boot ahead of Romelu Lukaku. However Alli says finishing in the top four and winning the FA Cup must be the striker’s priorities this year.

“I wouldn’t put it past him to catch Salah,”:Alli said following Saturday’s loss at Wembley Stadium.

“We’ve seen what he has done before. Last year against Lukaku it was a tough competition and he finished the season really strongly. But that can’t be H’s main focus this season. We are a team and we have got to play together and if he does it he does it and we will all be happy for him but I don’t think we are going to focus too much on it.

Alli added: “We have got a game in midweek against Brighton and our focus is on that and after that our focus will go to the FA Cup [semifinal against Manchester United on Saturday]. We have just got to pick ourselves up and try and pick ourselves up as quick as we can.

He went on to say :”We are very happy, we wanted to win the league but it has been a difficult season, there has been a lot of improvements in other teams. We have played very well, there are a lot of positives we can take, there are a lot of things to improve on, we know that.”

It was our first defeat in 14 matches, leaving us seven points clear of fifth-placed Chelsea with five games to play and Alli added:

“As a team, we looked to finish top four and we would be very disappointed if we didn’t, even though we know how difficult it is. Hopefully, we have done it, we have got to finish the season strongly and pick up some form again.”

The club and Kane’s decision to appeal the awarding of our second goal against Stoke last weekend was greeted with surprise by Salah, while Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson could not resist a joke at Kane’s expense following to win over Bournemouth, which moved the Reds three points clear of Spurs. However Alli gave his team mate his full backing.

“It gives some people a chance to put him down,”:said Alli. “But playing with him every day in training I can see how hard he works, he wants goals, he’s a striker, every striker wants goals, so he has just got to ignore it and focus on himself which I am sure he will do, he is an unbelievable player and he is a great person as well. If it was me and I touched the ball I would try and claim it as well!

“Harry is an unbelievable striker. To be honest, he touched it so it’s his goal and every striker would and should claim it if it is their goal. He has just got to ignore what everyone else is saying, he knows how good he is and I am sure everyone else knows how good he is.”
