Mauricio Pochettino has told the club website that the players will have learned a lot from the last round scare at the hands of Newport County.
League Two Newport gave us a real scare in the last round and we’re leading 1-0 until Harry Kane’s late equaliser,eight minutes from time sealed a draw at Rodney Parade and we subsequently won the replay 2-0 at Wembley.
Next up it’s a trip to Rochdale, currently at the foot of League One with games in hand, conquerors of Championship Millwall in round four.
“We experienced playing Newport and we need to be clever and use that in a good way,”:said Mauricio.
“It’s important to learn and Newport is a good example. If we are not capable of finding a way of staying at the same level (of motivation) as Rochdale, we’ll all be upset by the situation because we are all aware of what can happen in the FA Cup.
He added: “Our motivation is to go to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup and a game against Rochdale is as important as a game against Manchester United or Juventus, Liverpool or Newport.”
