Ligue 1 manager admits reported Spurs striker target wants to leave this summer

Stade Rennes manager, Julian Stephan has admitted that rumoured Spurs target M’baye Niang has indicated an interest in moving on from the French side this summer.

Speaking to Homme du Match, Stephan admitted that his player has had his head turned by the reported interest coming his way this summer.

The striker made 26 appearances for the French club in Ligue 1 in the 2019/20 season and scored 10 times (Transfermarkt).

L’Equipe have reported interest from Spurs, however, it is suggested a move for the striker would cost the Lilywhites somewhere in the region of £18m.

Stephan said: “I had a frank discussion with him on the resumption (of training). Yes, he saw himself leaving – or rather his entourage (saw him leaving).

“It was necessary to “catch up” the player, to involve him again in the project. From a physical point of view, M’Baye is back in shape.”

Fellow Premier League sides, Newcastle and West Ham have both been named as potential suitors for Niang in a report by FootMercato.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in bringing in a back-up striker to support Harry Kane next season (Standard).

However, there has also been reported interest from Spurs in Bournemouth’s Callum Wilson from the Daily Mail.

Spurs Web Opinion

I think if Mourinho is looking to bring in a striker who can offer solid support for Harry Kane or fill in for Kane due to injury then the obvious choice has to be Callum Wilson. He may not be the most prolific striker the Premier League has seen, however, given the stature of Kane, Wilson is probably as good of a back-up striker as we can possibly attract to sit on the bench.
