Mauricio expects tough Swansea test

Mauricio Pochettino expects to find a highly-motivated Swansea as we kick-off 2018 at the Liberty Stadium tonight.

An article on the club website describes how the Swans have turned to former Sheffield Wednesday boss Carlos Carvalhal following the departure of Paul Clement and the team duly responded with a late, late win at Watford on Saturday.

Carvalhal had initial success at Hillsborough when he took the Owls into the Championship play-offs in successive seasons, losing out to Hull at Wembley for a place in the Premier League in 2015-16 and in the semi-finals to Huddersfield last season however he was sacked just before Christmas with his team in 15th in the championship.

“Carlos Carvalhal knows England and the Premier League,” said Mauricio. “It’s always a tough game and with a new manager, Swansea will have the motivation to show they can play.

Mauricio added: “They are in a position where they need to fight, they need to take points and for us it’s the same and we’re going there to start the year in a very good way.
“It’s important to keep our mentality, energy and aggression.
“We need to arrive at Swansea with good energy and try to win the three points.”

We travel to the Liberty on the back of four wins out of five in the Premier League and impressive performances against Burney (3-0) and Southampton (5-1) either side of Christmas Day.

The article adds that we have a very busy start to 2018 with Swansea followed by a quick turn around and derby against West Ham at Wembley on Thursday and then back to Wembley on Sunday for our FA Cup third round tie against AFC Wimbledon.
Mauricio added; “It will be busy but we are ready and we must be ready to compete,We need to understand that we need to fight and work hard to build on this momentum, take confidence in the way we’ve played in the last two games and keep going.”
