Sky Sports News are reporting that Tottenham Hotspur are set to step up their bid to make Mauricio Pochettino their new boss by the end of this week.

Pochettino is Tottenham’s number one target to take over from Tim Sherwood. The 42-year-old’s stock at Southampton has risen over the past twelve months after guiding the Saints to an eighth place finish in the Premier League this season.

Louis Van Gaal was apparently our prime target, before he went on to take the Manchester United job. Frank De Boer and Rafa Benitez have also been linked with the Spurs job, but it now looks as if Pochettino could be heading to the Lane by the end of the week.

Would you be happy if Mauricio Pochettino takes over at Tottenham? Leave your views below.

  1. The sooner the better. Pochettino is the right manager for Spurs and will need some time, just as Lamela, Eriksen, Paulinho and Soldado will need time but I think Pochettino is a manager I believe in…

      • Shows what you know. Some people want FDB, the glamour signing, those same people wanted Soldado last summer but were calling him a c"nt 2 months later. Pochettino is the right man for this squad of players and with him we should only be a couple of signings and sales off being something pretty special. I'll give him my full backing but I do find some of the anti poch comments on here quite depressing and misguided…

        • let me properly tell you my views, I agree with most of what you write in response, our fans are idiots they call someone a legend after a nutmeg or a backheel, FDB won't sign for us why on earth would any decent manager or name in the game work for peanuts and not control the team affairs, signings and sales ? so that eliminates any thoughts of me wanting De Boer, also I rate Soldado highly, in truth the entire spurs team is shite except for Lloris , Soldado and Eriksen, all of them lose concentration, focus and heart and discipline, it speaks volumes when our fans go bananas for players like Ekotto and Sandro the pair of them are reckless and the last people you want in a changing room for positivity, Levy runs the whole damn show at the Lane and Pochettino is a pointless appointment, right now Jose Mourinho would be a pointless appointment, because they are only puppets, my biggest gripe with Pochettino is the fact he has failed to get 5 players who would walk into our team above us , and defensively Southampton were not the best, we really don't need Dawson and Co having no direction, and we don't need to buy 8 players again either, Pochettino has not got the experience or know how to deal with a club like Spurs, and by that I mean a F*cking mess !

  2. Really don't want him, he is a big risk, end up bottom off the league, has no European experience, only really managed Southampton bottom half team. Sorry not good enough to take us to top four and beyond. FDB for me he has been there titles and Europe.

    • With all due respect, AVB was a winner too both domestically and in Europe. We all saw how he fared. Right? And who is to say that Pochettino wouldn’t have won the league with Porto and Ajax.

  3. Porchettino does not have a proven record. His knowledge of the games, tactics etc are average. By appointing him we are not progressing from AVB or Sherwood.

Van Gaal's move to United is a blow, but please stop with the knee jerk reaction. Porchettino is not the way forward.

Frank de Boer would be better suited, as would Murat Yakin…..continue the search Levy, please

  4. well if you do get him, i hope he gets sacked like the rest. he should stay loyal at saints where his job is safe as. levy doesnt have a clue. and i hope to god if you gets potts, he gets sacked, spuds go mid table. and levy walks out.

  5. Not sure about this appointment, hope he does well obviously, but when times get tough, can he get a grip of Vertonghen and the like? Player power at Spurs is enormous, needs a manager with a proven track record and some balls.

Wonder if Levy will back him through the rough times??

    • Disagree about player power at spurs being a problem. Tim Sherwood clearly in full view of the world created problems with the players. If that's player power then theres player power at every club a nosher takes over at…

Will Levy back him through the tough times??

  7. About time, I was hoping for De Boer but still pleased if we get Pochettino. Hopefully Levy will give him more than 2 years to work with the current group of players we have and hopefully get top 4

  8. Pochettino, no way! What has he ever achieved as player or manager? Last season he had some the best English talent and could only finish mid-table. Even Sherwood did the double over him – and we sacked him!!! Another disastrous season ahead thanks once again to Levy. De Boar is the man we need not another Levy puppet..

  9. Pochettino is a disastrous appointment and I will walk away from Spurs if he is appointed and not return until he is gone, typical Levy doing things on the cheap, the southampton philosophy was in place long before this bloke turned up, I say it again if he can't get Lallana, Shaw, Rodriguez, Lovren, Chambers and Ward Prowse above our sack of shite why would we want him ? Southampton have the better players that is why half of them will be going above us in the summer.

  10. The only one that makes sense is Rafa, dont particuarily like the bloke but his CV is better than the other candidates. He is available alledgedly, but a bit wary of taking on the Spurs job.I cant think why.

    • Yeah I agree, but who in their right mind will join a football club where you don't pick your won players, you don't sell those you don't want , you must deliver champions league football and do it on half the salary of those currently in the top 4, absolute joke and most of our fans are too thick to realise it, they keep chanting out names like Dzeko ? are we sure ? why on earth would a Dzeko take a 120 k a week pay drop and play for a packet of wotsits and half a smoked salmon under Levy ? pay peanuts get monkeys and that will never change in life or Football ….or you get good young talent on the up and lose them before they make you a force, well done Modric and Bale I am convinced we don't miss you at all and Sandro is just as good and so is Chadli, … sick and tired of this shitty outfit that I have supported all my life, Pochettino ? Ha Ha quality , just quality !

  11. HA HA I LOVE READING THE COMMENTS ON HERE, HAS ANYONE STOPPED TO THINK THAT PERHAPS THE PROBLEM IS LEVY, THIS IS OUR 10 TH MANAGER IN 13 SEASONS, COULD IT JUST BE THAT UNFAIR DEMANDS AND A POOR WORKING ENVIRONMENT ARE THE PROBLEM HERE ? WHY DO PEOPLE FAIL TO RECOGNISE THAT THIS IS NOT JUST A FOOTBALL CLUB AND IT IS A PLACE WHERE PEOPLE WORK AND HAVE A BOSS TOO, LEVY IS A MUPPET AND BIGSY YOU ARE RIGHT !!!
