Toby Alderweireld is wanted by Manchester United this summer and Red Devil’s supremo Jose Mourinho is keen to get the deal done.

Alderweireld is one of the most consistent players in the Premier League performer since initially signing for Southampton on loan and then Tottenham on a permanent basis in 2015.

He has played a key role in the club’s arrival as top four regulars however his time in north London looks to be up as Spurs are ready to sell now rather than lose him for a lot less next season following unsuccessful contract negotiations and Premier League rivals Manchester United are leading the chase for his signature.

However an article in The Daily Star describes how Mourinho faces a race against time to get the signing sorted as he is keen to seal a deal for Alderweireld before the World Cup starts on June 14th meaning United have at most 16 days to complete the signing of the Belgium international.

Alderweireld is also a key player Roberto Martinez’s side, who get their tournament underway on June 18th against Panama before taking on Tunisia and England in the group stages.

So it looks like United are trying to force Spurs hand over the deal. Have we seen the last of Toby in a Spurs shirt or might he be persuaded to change his mind? Let us know your thoughts.

  1. He is gone and the sooner the better, a very good defender but uses clubs as stepoing stones.
Let’s just see how many games he will get at Man U, Jose will soon ruin his career

  2. Just look at the players Man U have and how they have unachieved.
Jose doesn’t develop players he buys them in and ignores the youth

  3. We ( tottenham Hotspur) won’t sell Toby to United unless they sell us martial end of story when r u journalists gonna understand Jose keeps saying we won’t sell to another top 6 side so do u really think levy will let toby go to them NOT A CHANCE

  4. Mourinho can wish away. It doesn’t mean the Toby transfer will happen solely on United’s terms, if Levy has anything to do with it. Which thankfully he does! If United don’t want to include Martial, then slap a fee of £75m on Toby’s head to call United out (£65m for clubs on the continent), and don’t shift on it. If United bend, and include Martial in the deal, then Levy should still look to collect £25m plus Martial. This whole deal is huge. An established world class centre back, possibly in his prime at 28, leaving our club, and probably for a major rival. We saw how the mistake of selling Walker one season too soon, and how it strengthened one major rival up north, and we must surely regret it. We can’t afford to do such a thing again (with Toby) unless there’s something in it for us (ie a larger fee amount or partial swap). And have you noticed that we NEVER get the chance to buy someone decent from our rivals, while THEY sniff around our players non-stop? They must be frightened to death of the rise of Spurs, that none of them feel they can sell us ANY want-away player.

  5. Someone tell moaniho that the right deal will get done when spurs says so and not before.

We need to make a statement here and if we really want martial as part of the deal then we need to stick to our guns and f*** what he says pardon my french
