Paul Merson predicts where Tottenham will finish in next season’s Premier League

Arsenal legend, Paul Merson has predicted that Spurs could finish in the top-four of the Premier League next season. However, he insists that the players will have to listen and abide by the instructions set by their manager, Jose Mourinho.

Tottenham’s Premier League position has dramatically improved since the arrival of Mourinho with Spurs climbing from 14th place up to the Europa League spots (The Sun).

With just one Premier League game left of the 2019/2020 season, Spurs could finish as high as sixth and qualification for Europe next season is still a possibility (PL).

Merson told Sky Sports: “There’s one thing I agree on with Jose Mourinho, and it’s that he is one of the top managers in the world, and you have to listen to him.

“I think the players will buy into it, and if they do, I think Spurs have every chance of finishing in the top four next season.

“When you come into a club and you’ve won everything in the game, and you’re among good players who haven’t won anything, listen to the man who has won it all, because he knows how to win it!”

Spurs have earned 13 points out of a possible 15 in their last five games, including victories over rivals Arsenal, as well as Everton, Newcastle United, and Leicester City (Sky Sports).

“I think they are going to buy into it, and I’ve seen that in the past three games. Against Arsenal and Leicester they counter-attacked, they broke up. This is the Spurs way now,” Merson added.

An impressive Tottenham win over Brendan Rodgers’ side last week, along with Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat to strugglers Aston Villa, meant that the Lilywhites are set to finish about their rivals for the fourth consecutive year.

It looks as though Mourinho is looking to sure up his defence for next season as he looks to push back into those Champions League places with Kane and co.

Spurs Web Opinion

Our form under Mourinho has certainly improved but we still have areas in which we must improve ahead of the start of next season. It is likely to be a short pre-season and I would like to see our business completed by the beginning of the new campaign. Top four is a real possibility.
