Player Ratings: Tromso 0-2 Tottenham

There was neither the goal glut that people wished for nor the post-6-0 blues that Spurs fans feared as the Lilywhites comfortably beat the Norwegian side deep inside the Arctic Circle. Goals from Vlad Chiriches – which may be recorded as an own goal – and Mousa Dembele gave Spurs the victory that means that they still possess a 100% record in this year’s Europa League, and they will be in the draw as a group winner.

Brad Friedel – 6 – Hardly touched the ball as many of Tromso’s ‘chances’ either ended in a miss or a tackle, but the American’s distribution was at times impressive as he picked out Chadli on the chest on 2 occasions.

Kyle Naughton – 5 – Why has a fan been allowed onto the pitch? Get him off!!

Ok, it wasn’t quite that bad. But he allowed the Tromso left-sided players to get in behind him down the flank on a number of occasions and didn’t look altogether too convincing on the artificial surface.

Michael Dawson – 6 – Solid enough although, like many of the team, did struggle with passing and ball control on the bouncy surface.

Vlad Chiriches – 7 – A composed and classy performance, capped with a neat goal.

Zeki Fryers – 6 – Building on his sporadic performances earlier in the season with another solid display at left-back, with a quiet but accomplished display.

Etienne Capoue – 6 – At the moment he is an able understudy to Sandro and this performance didn’t produce fireworks, but was solid and determined on his gradual return from his 10 game lay-off.

Mousa Dembele – 7 – Quiet in the first half but really grew into the game as he pushed up in the pitch in the second half, capping his fine performance with a neat finish and unlucky not to get another just moments later as his dinked finish struck the inside of the post.

Andros Townsend – 6 – Saw plenty of the ball but struggled to either make room for a shot or pick out a team-mate: a quiet display.

Nacer Chadli – 6 – Reasonably impressive on his return from injury and despite the bad press he has received as being a ‘flop’ signing, put in a good performance. Why should we judge him so early in his Tottenham career if we’re not going to do the same for Eriksen, Lamela and co.?

Gylfi Sigurdsson – 6 – Quiet, like many players, with occasional flashes of ability.

Roberto Soldado – 6 – Made runs left, right and centre all day but was rarely found by a team-mate, and when he was, he had his back to goal and could do little more than lay the ball off. Lost motivation towards the end of the game.
