Pochettino using book proceeds to help fund next generation of coaches

The Tottenham Hotspur Foundation along with Mauricio Pochettino have launched a new programme aimed at training youngsters within the Club’s local community who have a passion for coaching.

The programme, called Passion 4 Coaching, sees 16- to 24-year-olds who have a desire to become football coaches recruited through the Foundation’s existing outreach work and taken on a training course covering safeguarding, delivering effective coaching drills, equalities and inclusion.

If ever there was an indication of his loyalty to the club the new project is being set up and funded through the proceeds of the sales of Brave New World – a recent book that provides a first-person snapshot of a season at Tottenham Hotspur under Pochettino.

The article on the club website goes on to say that Passion 4 Coaching will see the Argentinian share his expertise and methods with the Foundation coaches delivering this unique scheme.

It adds that graduates from the programme will then be given the opportunity to work within the Club’s Global Coaching programme through methods developed within the Tottenham Hotspur Academy and the programme forms part of the Club’s wider work to create employment opportunities for local people living within its community.

Mauricio said: “Coaching has been my passion ever since my playing career was over and I know that there are many young local people who share that passion and are just waiting for the opportunity.

He added: “It is important for me to be able to work with the Club and its Foundation to provide that opportunity through Passion 4 Coaching – a project that we hope will change the lives of those taking part.Through our Global Coaching programme, there are many pathways that exist for young coaches to build on their passion and be able to develop their knowledge and skills through the Club’s outreach work, so I am extremely excited to be involved in this.”

Richard Allicock who is Community Development Manager for the clubs foundation, said: “Passion 4 Coaching represents a huge opportunity for young people from our local community who have an ambition to become a football coach.Mauricio’s support is invaluable to our staff that will be delivering the programme and he sets an example to any budding young coach hoping to pursue this as a career.”
