Pochettino: “We deserved the victory”

Mauricio Pochettino felt our late winner at Crystal Palace was fully deserved after we had dominated the largely frustrating game.

That man again Harry Kane headed home the only goal, his 35th in all competitions this season,of the match in the 88th minute at Selhurst Park to secure three valuable Premier League points in the race for a top-four finish.

It was his 150th of his club career and denied Palace a point in their fight against relegation, after they had fought hard to keep the us at bay.

“It was difficult circumstances to play under and Palace play so deep,” Pochettino told Sky Sports after the match.
“They tried to make it difficult for our game but, of course, the conditions weren’t great to move the ball quick, but we created chances. We dominated the whole game and it would have been a shame if we did not score at the end because we deserved to secure the victory.

He added: “I’m so happy. Three points. A good position in the table, so fighting for the top four and we are happy now.”

Harry was guilty of spurning a couple of glorious opportunities to put us in front earlier in the match, however Mauricio praised the forward’s willingness to keep going until the end.

He added: “He was there and trying. You can never be too frustrated [after missing a big chance] and I’m so happy we got the three points. It’s key to win and keep winning. It’s so tight the table [for fourth place]. Fighting against the top-four teams that are involved are big sides, so it’s important to try and win as many points as you can.”
