Ryan Mason has said that manager Mauricio Pochettino loves Erik Lamela because he always gives his everything in matches.

Erik has had a tough time with injuries and personal problems while with Spurs, and returned from a year out of the game as a result of a hip injury earlier this season.

Mason was at the Spurs when Argentine forward arrived from Roma and has been left raving over both his talent and dedication to football, insisting that Lamela’s attitude is exactly why Pochettino keeps picking his fellow countryman.

Speaking on BBC 5 Live sport he said: “Coco’s (Lamela) one of these players, he loves football, I’ve never come across anyone in the game that loves the game as much as him.

Mason added: “The reason why the gaffer picks him is because one, he trusts him and two, Coco will never give anything less than 100 per cent. He’s got this ability to create a bit of brilliance.”

Lamela has a total of 141 appearances for Spurs since his arrival from Serie A back in 2013, and he’s scored 20 goals and chipped in with 36 assists.

  1. Commitment is a great thing…. until it leads to a player running around like a headless chicken- that is Lamela.

    • Mate your missing the point he’s got the energy and the fitness level, ”
which means he gives the players that aint a rest, because he will take the load and not complain.
Top top player who will get better and make you look stupid.

  2. Lamela is a fantastic player, and when flair isn’t enough he is able to get in there and play the pitbull. Very crucial player!

  3. Martyn James is spot on. Lamela is second rate at best. ok against the likes of Rochdale. It really is time for the Lamela experiment to conclude. It has failed. Here is the commentary you will hear if he plays against Juventus.

People talk about his lovely link up play but all I see are some short range passes that my son of 11 could do. Oh, he’s lost the ball again. What a terrble foul. That’s a yellow for Lamela. He’s over hit the pass and Kane was in a fantastic position. Hilamela’s shot has gone wide. Lost the ball again and now Juventus are storming down the pitch. Goal to Juventus. Lamela’s said something tothe referee. He’s got another yellow. He’s off. Spurs down to 10 men. The match and tie have been lost – all down to Lamela.
