Report: Two bitter rivals set to battle for summer signing of Spurs star

Bitter rivals Besiktas and Fenerbahce are both showing interest in Tottenham defender, Jan Vertonghen as the Belgian nears the end of his Spurs contract.

Turkish newspaper Takvim report that the two sides are set to battle it out with interested Italian suitors for the experienced Belgian centre-back this summer.

Vertonghen has now entered the final month of his contract which is set to expire at the end of this season and newly appointed Fenerbahce sporting director Emre Belozoglu views him as the perfect man to solve their defensive problems.

Besiktas have been linked to the 33-year-old via Turkish journalist, Ertan Süzgün who believes that the Süper Lig giants have already made contact.

Italian sides, Napoli, Inter, Fiorentina and Roma have all been reported as interested clubs when it comes to signing Vertonghen who joined Spurs from Ajax in 2012 (Transfermarkt).

Although Vertonghen’s future at Spurs seems to be coming to an end, the veteran defender does not look like he will be short of potential suitors in the summer.

Spurs Web Opinion

Vertonghen would certainly provide the Turkish sides a great deal of experience, however, I personally see him going to Serie A. Inter would be a great fit for ‘Super Jan’ with a host of former Premier League players currently at the Italian giants – including Christian Eriksen.
