Rumour Mill: £50 Million Minimum For Dier

According to The Telegraph, Tottenham Hotspur have taken a strong stance on Eric Dier’s future at the club, advising Jose Mourinho and Manchester United that they will not shift from their £50 million evaluation of the midfielder.

Over the past few months, Eric Dier has very loosely been linked with a move to Manchester United this Summer by less than reputable sources such as The Sun and the The Star.

However, Mourinho’s hopes, if any, of landing the versatile 23 year old have taken a knock today, as Tottenham have reportedly told ‘the special one’ that they’ll consider nothing less than £50 million for his signature.

The Telegraph also reveals that, as well as being a tactic to divert interest from the England international, this figure also smashes the £40 million Mourinho intended to offer.

But Spurs may even open contract talks with Dier, so I don’t believe defensive midfielder will be going anywhere this Summer. It’s quite clearly as The Telegraph have said; diversion tactics.

Even if United placed a bid of £50 million for him, I wouldn’t expect Spurs to accept it. It’s more of a warning to back off, like Napoli did with Piotr Zielinski.

Do you agree with me? Or do you think we should be worried about Dier?
