Rumour Mill: Ginter Deal On The Rocks?

According to German newspaper Die Welt, Borussia Monchengladbach are stepping up the chase for Tottenham target Matthias Ginter.

Just yesterday it was reported that Borussia Dortmund were expecting to lose 23 year old centre-back Matthias Ginter and that new boss Peter Bosz was planning for next season without the defender.

Although Spurs were named as the main party interested in Ginter’s services, today it has been revealed that Borussia Monchengladbach are also determined to bring the youngster in this Summer.

The loan deal that kept Chelsea’s Andreas Christiansen at Borussia-Park for the past two seasons in Germany finally came to end last season, and according to Die Welt, Monchengladbach have their sights set on Ginter as the replacement.

Additionally, it is reported that the interest is mutual, with Ginter prioritising regular game-time in his search for a new club, which he is more likely to find at Borussia Monchengladbach.

While Tottenham could offer Ginter the game-time he seeks, manager Mauricio Pochettino would be required to permanently switch formation to three at the back, as it is unlikely either of the Belgian centre-backs Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld would be dropped to make space for Ginter.

Monchengladbach midfielder Christoph Kramer also revealed how he plans to persuade the young defender to move to Borussia-Park, in an interview with German outlet Bild. He said:

“I’ll call him tomorrow, when all the chaos is over. I would be glad if he would come to us.”

In Pochettino’s shoes, what would you do? Move to three at the back to satisfy Ginter or look for someone else?
