Rumour Mill: Meyer on Tottenham’s Radar?

According to Football.London, 21 year old German Max Meyer could be on his way out of Schalke 04 with Spurs a possible destination for the attacking midfielder.

Football.London reports that Meyer has failed to impress the senior management at Schalke, having only scored 1 goal in 27 appearances in what has been an inconsistent Bundesliga campaign this season.

German news outlet Bild claims that Meyer is unwilling to sign a new contract, despite his current deal running out in a year’s time. Because of this, Meyer would be available to buy at a much cheaper price than the reported £38 million price tag Schalke had put on his previously.

Bild also claims that Tottenham Hotspur are monitoring the situation with a keen interest on picking up the youngster’s signature either now at a cut-down price, or on a free transfer next Summer.

Meyer is a very versatile footballer, being mainly played as an attacking midfielder on the left flank or behind the striker. However, the 21 year old has proven himself to be more than comfortable in deeper and more advanced positions on the pitch.

Meyer has featured mainly in the Europa League this season, which may be a contributing factor to his want-away status. Tottenham have the luxury of offering the young German Champions League football, should a deal begin to go through.

Tottenham have been linked with a move for Max Meyer during the previous two transfer windows, but no deal ever came to fruition. What do you think of the situation? Do you think this deal is likely, or do you even feel this transfer would be a good move?
