Rumour Mill: Real Madrid Star Coming To Tottenham?

According to The Daily Star, Tottenham Hotspur have opened discussion with Spanish giants Real Madrid over the availability of midfielder Mateo Kovacic.

The 23 year old has reportedly become a figure of interest at Tottenham, after making 36 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions last season, where the Croatian scored just the solitary goal in both La Liga and the Champions League, as well as 3 league assists.

Once again, it’s the midfielder’s versatility that’s reportedly caught Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino’s eye, as the Croatia international is capable of playing as a deep lying defensive midfielder, a shadow striker, a play-maker and a winger.

The Daily Star has revealed that Tottenham have even contacted Real Madrid over the possibility of signing the midfield talent, who would realistically get more first-team starts at Tottenham than he has done in the Spanish capital, as Kovacic started only 22 of his 36 appearances last season.

Additionally, it is reported that Los Blancos gaffer Zinedine Zidane is unwilling to sell the 23 year old, but could easily lose out to Tottenham who would be willing to splash out on the youngster only if Eric Dier does in fact join Manchester United in a rumoured big money move.

Spurs’ spending power could be set for a massive increase if both Manchester sides spend big on reported transfer targets Kyle Walker and Eric Dier, while Spurs eye up cost effective replacements.

This would be in addition to the departures of Kevin Wimmer and Moussa Sissoko, who are also expected to depart the club this Summer.

Football.London however reckons this is all total nonsense, it’s getting hard to keep up.

Tottenham’s transfer plans seem to be very dependent on how much other clubs are willing to spend on current squad members, making it all relatively mysterious to us on the outside. What do you predict will happen this Summer? Who will leave and who will join?
