Rumour Mill: Spurs Bid Rejected?

According to a number of online news outlets, Tottenham Hotspur have had a £22 million bid rejected by Real Madrid for Croatia international Mateo Kovacic.

Spurs became linked with the 23 year old a few weeks ago when Real Madrid announced the signing of 20 year old midfielder Dani Cabellos from Real Betis.

In signing on at the Santiago Bernabeu, Cabellos became Real Madrid’s 9th central midfielder, which lead to rumours that Mateo Kovacic had fallen out of favour with Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane.

While most papers reported that Zidane would be reluctant to sell, they also claimed that the French legend’s hand could be forced if Kovacic pressed for a move.

Now, online sources SportsMole and BleacherReport, are both reporting that Tottenham have tested Real Madrid’s resole with a £22 million bid for the Croatian midfielder.

Though Kovacic was not a regular starter for the Spanish giants, both websites state that the bid has already been turned down, yet Spurs gaffer Mauricio Pochettino remians keen to bring the promising midfielder to Tottenham this Summer.

This sounds dodgy to me, given the fact that no major sports news outlet is reporting on this story any more. It seemed to die down a week ago.

Perhaps a bit of a forged headline, but I can’t really blame these reporters, there really is little in the way of Spurs transfer news right now. I’m desperate to hear of something solid.

So far, Spurs are the only Premier League team not to announce a signing. I don’t want Tottenham to rush into any business, but we need to get our fresh faces well integrated in the squad before the serious football kicks off and we only have a few days left until our International Champions Cup begins.

Who do you think will be Tottenham’s first signing?
