Rumour Mill: Spurs Interest in Veltman?

25 yeard old Ajax defender Joel Veltman is apparently on the receiving end of renewed interest from Tottenham Hotspur, The Evening Standard claims.

Europa League finalists Ajax will struggle to keep Tottenham’s hands off versatile defender Joel Veltman this Summer, with the North-London side renewing their interest in the Dutchman.

According to The Evening Standard, Veltman’s contract in the Netherlands runs out in 12 months, which could see him available at a cut-down price of £8 million, or even see him move on a free transfer next year.

Veltman played over 40 games for Ajax last season, including a start in the Europa League final against Manchester United.

Tottenham have been rumoured to be interested in the defender for over a year and have had success with former Ajax players in the past, with key squad members Jan Vertonghen, Toby Alderweireld and Christian Eriksen all rising through the ranks at the Amsterdam Arena.

With uncertainty looming over the futures of Kevin Wimmer and Kyle Walker, Joel Veltman could provide the defensive cover Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino needs if the aforementioned players do in fact depart Tottenham this Summer.

What do you think? Would Veltman be a good replacement for Walker and Wimmer?
