Rumour Mill: Spurs Linked With Ajax Defender?

Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with 25 year old Ajax centre-back Joel Veltman according to reports from HITC Sport and The Telegraph.

Joel Veltman is a versatile defender who’s spent all of his career with the Dutch giants Ajax. Yet, in the Summer of 2018, Veltman’s contract with Ajax expires, which would open the door for a prospectively cheap transfer. According to HITC Sport, now is the perfect time for Tottenham to make a move for the defender, which has separately been reported as likely by The Telegraph.

This is not the first time Spurs have been linked with the Dutchman. In 2014, Tottenham were named among a whole host of other English Premiership teams as an interested party in the then 22 year old’s signature. However, Spurs did not make an attempt at a transfer deal.

Now 3 years later, Tottenham are apparently revisiting their interest in the defender. Should Spurs switch formation to 3 at the back, Veltman would fit in perfectly with Toby Alderweireld and former Ajax star Jan Vertonghen, as he is able to sweep across all defensive roles alongside the Belgian internationals. Do you think this would be a good move? Or should Spurs focus on Harry Maguire or Kevin Wimmer?
