Rumour Mill: Spurs Linked With Venezuelan Youngster?

According to Sportsmole, Tottenham are interested in a potential transfer move for Venezuelan 20 year old Yeferson Soteldo.

The midfielder played a crucial role in Venezuela’s impressive run in the Under 20s World Cup, in which the South American side reached the Semi-Finals, and has reportedly attracted interest from Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino.

According to Don Balon, Tottenham may be prepared to pay as much as £16 million for Soteldo’s services, despite the youngster only having made 8 senior appearances for Huachipato in his career.

In addition, if a deal were to be concluded, Pochettino is reportedly planning on immediately loaning the 20 year back to his current South American club over the course of the next season.

Tottenham reportedly face competition for Soteldo’s signature from fellow Premier League side Watford, who have the edge over Spurs given Soteldo’s international team-mate Adalberto Penarada is on the books at Vicarage Road and could attempt to persuade the midfielder to join him in North-West London.

This is most likely another empty headline. £16 million sounds like a hefty fee for someone I’ve quite frankly never heard of, nor noticed. What do you think? Does it have any merit?
