Rumour Mill: Turkish Wonder-Kid Coming to Tottenham?

Recent reports from Turkey have revealed that Tottenham are working hard to bring 19 year old forward Cengiz Under to North-London this Summer.

Cengiz Under is a young forward/winger playing for this season’s surprise Turkish runners-up, Basaksehir, who scored 9 goals and made 5 assists during the fairy-tale title challenge.

Turkish sports news outlet Radyospor had claimed that Spurs had all but wrapped up an £8 million deal to sign the young striker. However Under’s agent Omer Koray Uzun dismissed claims that a deal had been reached, saying to Turkish-Football:

“There is no agreement right now with any club, there are several clubs from England, Germany and France scouting Under but no deal.”

President of Basaksehir also commented on the transfer, confirming that though talks were progressing, no deal had yet been confirmed. Goksel Gumusdag simply stated:

“There is no deal at this moment with Tottenham, that is all I can say.”

On the 1st of May, Manchester United were also revealed as an interested party, when United’s scout based in Turkey, Krsto Kilibarda, was spotted attending Basaksehir matches. Turkish-Football coined Under as the ‘Turkish Dybala’ and quoted Gumusdag on the widespread interest in the 19 year old forward. He said:

“There were scouts from Premier League scouts and La Liga teams at the Besiktas derby.”

“I will reveal the details at the end of the season as I do not want to distract the team.”

“We do not want to sell Under but will discuss this once the season is over.”

Now that the season is finished, Spurs may very well be making a move to sign the wonder-kid ahead of Manchester United.
