Rumour Mill: United Set Sights On Dier Again

According to The Daily Express, Manchester United have pulled out of a rumoured £40 million deal to sign Chelsea’s Nemanja Matic in order to focus on bringing Spurs midfielder Eric Dier to Old Trafford instead.

In early June, papers were reporting solid interest from Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho in versatile 23 year old Eric Dier, however United later made ground on signing Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic as an alternative.

At the time, United were linked with several high profile players, such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Antoine Griezmann and Alvaro Morata, though much like the Eric Dier rumours, they came to nothing.

Now, there is a new twist to the tale, with The Daily Express revealing that Manchester United have pulled out of a nearly done-deal to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea for £40 milion in the hopes of signing Tottenham’s Eric Dier instead.

According to The Guardian, Spurs will hold out for at least £50 million for the Englishman, which is £10 million more than United could have spent on simply signing Premier League champion Nemanja Matic.

Even if United were to bid £50 million for Dier, I still feel as though Spurs would ask for more. The price-tag was supposed to deter interest from the midfielder, but it seems Mourinho is desperate to add a spine to his squad in the shape of the young Englishman.

Do you think it could happen? How much is Dier worth in your eyes?
