Sherwood the future? You’re having a laugh!

Watching Tottenham’s lacklustre display against Norwich City on Sunday, I couldn’t help but think that Tim Sherwood’s luck has finally ran out and he is completely out of his depth as Spurs manager, there was absolutely no urgency, no character, no pace and no balance to our team, all I saw was sideways and backwards passing which inevitably went back to Dawson who blasted aimless long balls forward which almost always fell to a Norwich defender.

Fair play to Norwich, as their pressing game offered us little time on the ball, I myself just cannot understand why we don’t adopt a pressing game ourselves in an effort to win the ball back quickly in dangerous areas?, our play was so careless and static, dwelling on the ball with heads down, no movement from the front and often no commitment to win the ball back when a pass goes astray, our slow build up play exposes us to teams that press hard, and when we lose the ball it leads to dangerous counter attacks, this is the main reason for all the thrashings we have received this season. Tim has now had enough time to implement his ideas/style of play, and I am not impressed, our recent good form in the Premier League owes a lot to luck and the good form of Lloris and Adebayor.

Tim has inherited a squad which is ridiculously overloaded in central midfield area (Thank you Levy/Baldini/AVB), and consequently Tim selected four central midfielders in his line up on Sunday, while leaving our most creative central midfielder “Eriksen” on the bench !, I thought that Sherwood was AVB in disguise the way he set up the team, Norwich are a side who lack goals and are short on confidence, and we should have set ourselves up to attack as an early goal would have put us in the driving seat. Sherwood cannot complain about his team making slow starts as he is not exactly setting up his team to attack?, we stepped out on to the pitch knowing that all of our rivals won, so where was the motivation?, where was the will to succeed, the buck stops with Tim I’m afraid.

Now that our Champions League aspirations are all but over, I fear our season could fizzle out badly, especially if we get knocked out of the Europa League on Thursday, or maybe it’s finally dawned on Tim that Van Gaal will be replacing him in the summer!, this is another fine mess that Daniel Levy has got us into!, we seem to always be tantalisingly close to achieving success only to then shoot ourselves in the foot!, It’s typical Spurs, for there can be no true despair without a little hope!.

  1. Great article, the players seem to have not bought into TS tactics.Looks like he sends them out and tells them to do their own thing
The last two games were poor considering the teams we put out simply embarrassing no guts no guile clueless

  2. Norwich game wasn't great agreed. But all the top Six teams have had a result like that. Bottom Line is that Sherwood is averaging 2 points per game, which is Top 4 form, so the facts say he's not doing a bad job

    • Agree with Adam Wright. The OTT reaction to a rare poor away defeat at Norwich on Sunday has been ridiculous – read that muppet Harry Hotspur who seems to have a campaign against all Spurs managers, particularly if they are english. The fact is Sherwood has done a decent job and deserves our support; he is likely to be replaced at the end of the season anyway so what is the point of constantly slagging him off. Next two homes games are vital to our season.

      • Before writing off other peoples comments as biased, you might remember that AVB averaged 1.83 points per game, had at the time the best win percentage of any modern day Spurs manager, was unbeaten in Europe, but the football was still rubbish so Sherwood should not be beyond criticism for his poor decision making……even if he is English.
I think the general frustration lies more with the constant state of flux we seem to be in, and the result is criticism of the man who makes the decisions, it what he gets paid very well for.
Face it, we're a shambles at the moment, on and off the field.

  3. I for one will not be watching any more games whilst Sherwood is in charge what an embarrasment to be a Spurs supporter.
Many times I have watched Sherwood field an embarrasing team and God only knows why he still persist with Bentaleb?????
COme on Levy give me the job I would do better job picking the right team for our club.

  4. Harry Hotspur is a jumped up prick you uses Spurs as a way to provide him with a social life as clearly he has no real friends. I used to leave stacks of offensive replies on his website until he started moderating it.
People like Harry Hotspur are the as low as a so called Fan can get, even worse he is noisy. I'd love to run a post on how many people think he is a C**T

    • Hmmm.
You criticise another's blog but in the same sentence show how juvenile you are by stating that you posted lots of offensive replies, what sort of twat does that make you. Do you believe you deserve to be listened to after such an admission.
I'm no fan of the BoyHotspur, but everyone deserves to be heard, even if you don't like what they have to say. Has it ever occurred to you that he could be another Adrian Durham, you know creates a little controversy just to garner a reaction?
Were you really surprised that you started being moderated numpty?

  5. Look on the bright side. At least we haven't got Moyes, but the way things are going, by the start of next season ………………

  6. Perhaps we mere mortals don't see the 'big picture', that is Levy has a bigger say in the running of the team etc than we all realise.I do not understand the formation, choice of players or lack of drive in the last 2 games? Hopefully Tim will put our best players on the pitch and play attacking exciting football.Do not agree with Rose, Naughton or Adebayor playing at all.Sandro,Erikson, Kabul,Townsend should all start on Thurs.Give captaincy to Kabul or Vertonghen.Tactics- attack from the off and batter them(Newcastle style).coys

  7. Appreciate the comments everyone. In hindsight I know my article may come across as a knee jerk reaction, but some of our recent performances have been desperately poor, we got away with it against Everton, however we were found out against Dnipo and Norwich, to be fair Sherwood was brave to put himself forward for the job, but the reality is that he has no experience and is out of his depth managing a big team like Spurs, furthermore it’s the worst kept secret that Van Gaal has been offered the job (after the world cup), and that must be unsettling for Sherwood and the players, a large portion of the blame lays squarely in the hands of Daniel Levy, and I will be writing an article about Levy’s mis-management of Spurs soon.

  8. All Spurs best creative players are out on loan. Eriksen is on the bench. The manager is picking the donkeys that AVB brought to the club and an average youngster. When a team picks rubbish players to play in midfield, it is no surprise they look like a pub team and get outplayed by a bottom of the table team like Norwich.

  9. Good article and have to agree with the comments. The truth of the matter that the blame should lie with Levy who appointed Tim on a temporary basis but expecting him to get the 4th spot was never going to happen. I have to agree with previous comments and in the last 2 games it has been like we have AVB back again managing the team , with poor team selection, wrong subs etc and then to say i had to have a word with them at half time ( how many times has this happened this season??) I thought it was the managers job to motiviate them to be up for the game. I read that Sandro could have played for 45 minutues on Sunday but was not even included in the squad, then to leave Erricson sitting on the bench again is beyond belief .

  10. Sorry for my english. I am not fluent in english but I am a fan of Tottenham. Thanks for a great article. One of the things I fear the most is Sherwood dragging self confidence out of the players. He does that by placing players on the bench that should not be on the bench (like Eriksen), or by misplacing players so that they wind up playing poorly. Or by using certaing players to much so those players never gets a chance to have a break. Or just his way of communicating with the press. The latest I heard was him saying: "We need to find another one like him. He always played with his heart. I appreciate his efforts and he will always be a legend.". Yes Defoe was great but I dont think the strikers left in Tottenham will gain any self confidence having to read stuff like that.

    Exactly!!!!!!
When Man City went there the previous week and drew 0-0 with a lackluster display I thought it was obvious the Pelligrini was out of his depth as well. Sack all managers that don't have you playing mike Madrid every week because they are obviously out of there depth!
