Southgate’s Alli faith restored

According to The Mail England manager Gareth Southgate’s faith in Dele Alli has been strengthened by the midfielder’s positive finish to the season.

There were doubts around Dele’s England career in March when the he failed to start in either of the friendlies against Holland and Italy, even though he was troubled by a groin injury at the time.

However the article says Southgate is said to have been impressed with the way Alli has bounced back including his performance in Spurs’ 3-1 victory at Chelsea in which he scored twice and he also chipped in with two more goals before the end of the league season.

The former MK Dons man will now be confident of starting in Saturday’s warm-up game against Nigeria at Wembley.

The team had a day off on Wednesday ahead of their transition from St George’s Park to their southern base at The Grove, in Hertfordshire.
