Spurs and Chelsea to resurrect Barkley tussle

The Daily Star says we are ready to beat Chelsea to the signing of Everton star Ross Barkley when the transfer window opens in earnest tomorrow

Everton supremo Sam Allardyce is resigned to losing the England midfielder, who has yet to play for him because of a severe hamstring injury.

The article adds that the 24-year-old is nearing full fitness again — just in time for a bidding war between the two London clubs.

It goes on to say the story was that Barkley was on the verge of a £25million transfer to Chelsea just hours before the summer window closed, only to pull out at the last minute and the article said it wasbelieved he was alerted to Tottenham’s interest and decided to weigh up his options.

It also says Chelsea boss Antonio Conte is still keen to help bolster his squad with a move for Barkley, but adds we will also enter the bidding, believing they can pull off the final deal and Big Sam will turn his attention to Sevilla’s former Stoke midfielder Steven N’Zonzi and Arsenal forward Theo Walcott.
