Spurs exploring Alderweireld replacement possibilities

The club are supposedly interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Jonathan Tah as a possible option should Toby Alderweireld leave the club this summer.

It’s well known that Toby’s current contract expires in the summer of 2019 and the club have yet to persuade the Belgian to sign a new deal.

And now according to The Mirror, we are likely to try and sell Alderweireld in the summer and have been scouting £35million-rated Tah, who has three caps for Germany.

The article add that he is composed on the ball and possesses excellent positional sense, Tah is an exciting prospect, with the 22-year-old having developed extremely well during his time at Leverkusen.

We can already call upon Davinson Sanchez and Jan Vertonghen at the heart of the defence, as well as youngster Juan Foyth, but we would certainly require an additional option should Alderweireld depart.

It adds how Alderweireld has produced some outstanding performances for the club at times but in recent seasons has struggled with injuries – playing just 10 Premier League games this campaign having been sidelined with a hamstring problem.

If Tah was to join Tottenham he would in all likelihood have be content with being a backup option or would likely have to compete with Sanchez for a place in the side and it does remain to be seen whether he would be content with that
