Spurs eye German playmaker

According to German newspaper Kicker we are interested in FC Köln playmaker Leonardo Bittencourt.

Despite their presence in the Europa League this season, Köln are deep in a relegation battle in the Bundesliga and are six points adrift of even the promotion/relegation play-off places in Germany’s top flight.

An player exodus is expected if Köln do drop into Germany’s second tier, and one player who appears to have a release clause in his contract is Leonardo Bittencourt and the midfielder is potentially on his way out of the club this summer.

The Kicker report says that Bittencourt can leave for just €8million (£7million) if Koln are relegated this summer, and Spurs are said to hold an interest along with French side Monaco.

Bittencourt, 24, has has spells with Energie Cottbus, Borussia Dortmund and Hannover signed for Köln in the summer of 2015.

He can play out wide or as a central attacking midfielder and Bittencourt has often been considered as a player with major potential, but he hasn’t quite lived up to that billing just yet.

Mauricio Pochettino is of course well known at being able to get the best out of young players and the article adds that he may see Bittencourt as a relative cheap acquisition that he can attempt to develop behind the likes of Christian Eriksen and Dele Alli .
