Spurs lose ground in race for Brazilian hotshot

Spurs are facing an uphill battle in their attempts are to land £40million-rated Watford forward Richarlison

The Brazilian moved to the Premier League last summer in an £11m transfer from Fluminese but has attracted interest from several clubs around Europe after an impressive debut campaign in England.

He hit the ground running, netting five times in his first 12 games but is currently on a barren run in front of goal, having not scored since November.

However according to The Mail Jose Mourinhis keen to bring the youngster to Old Trafford in the summer and Manchester United are installed as favourites to land the Watford Star.

Chelsea, Arsenal, Bayern Munich, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are also in the battle for his signature but with Anthony Martial’s time in Manchester looking like it’s coming to an end and it would undoubtedly should Richarlison move to United.

Mourinho has already identified Richarlison as an ideal replacement for the unhappy Martial and believes he would be a viable alternative on the flanks, which would also allow Marcus Rashford to operate as a second-choice striker behind Romelu Lukaku.

Richarlison still has four years left on his Vicarage Road deal and Watford are understood to be desperate to keep hold of him for at least another season, however with Ligue 1 giants Monaco also recently joining the race to sign him, they are facing a huge battle to retain his services.
