Spurs ready to sell Alderweireld

Talks have supposedly reached an impasse and are the club are reportedly ready to sanction Toby Alderweireld’s exit in the summer with the blessing of Mauricio Pochettino.

Alderweireld currently earns around £50,000 a week, but is supposedly demanding three times that to have parity with the club’s biggest earners.

He has just returned from a three-month injury, and the Belgian defender has had problems trying to regain his place in the starting XI even being left out of the Champions League last-16 first leg away to Juventus despite saying he was ready

Reports last week suggested Real Madrid were lining up a move for the 28-year-old, soon to be 29, as Zinedine Zidane seeks to revamp his squad and Manchester United are also said to be monitoring Alderweireld’s situation, with Jose Mourinho have growing doubts over Phil Jones and Chris Smalling.

And now according to The Times, Tottenham are ready to sell Alderweireld for £25million which is the clause in his contract and Pochettino has supposedly backed the decision and feels having a strict wage structure is necessary if he can improve other areas of his squad.

The article also adds that we are also believed to be negotiating new deals for Christian Eriksen and Son Heung-min.

The Times you’d say tends to be more credible when it comes to reporting but I’m sure Mauricio will clear it up in his press conference today.
