Spurs Sign Gazzaniga

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the official signing of Argentinian goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga, who’s joined on a 5 year deal from Premier League side Southampton.

25 year old goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga will wear the number 22 shirt left vacant by Nacer Chadli last Summer, and will reunite with former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham.

Last season, Gazzaniga enjoyed a relatively successful loan spell in La Liga, where the Argentine went on to represent Rayo Vallecano 32 times and kept 11 clean sheets.

The ‘keeper hasn’t featured for the Saints since 2-0 defeat to Spurs in December 2015, but will now act as cover for the Tottenham first-team.

Many weeks ago, SkySources had revealed that Spurs were in the market for a young goalkeeper, as a long term replacement for current team captain and France international Hugo Lloris.

Earlier in the window, Tottenham were expected to follow up the loan of Pau Lopez with a permanent signing, however a fee could not be agreed between Spurs and Espanyol and the Spanish shot-stopper eventually returned to the RCDE Stadium.
