Spurs youngster will have had his head turned by Barcelona interest claims pundit

Former Spur, Michael Brown has insisted that Ryan Sessegnon will have had his head turned by the speculation linking him with a potential switch to Barcelona this summer.

Speaking to Football Insider, Brown admitted the turbulent season at Tottenham has hindered the youngster’s development and may have left him eyeing the switch.

Sky Sports reported recently the La Liga giants as interested in the availability of the 20-year-old after their long-term interest during his time at Fulham.

Brown said: “Well, it’s a great story, you say Sessegnon to Barcelona, turn his head is an understatement, that’s what I will say. He’s just with the physio now turning his neck back where he jarred it!

“He’s a wonderful talent, he’s played a ruck of games already so it’s not as if he hasn’t had that experience playing. He’s just at a Spurs side that have had a bit of uncertainty, the changes and things we’ve seen.”

Despite making the £25m move from the Cottagers to Spurs last summer, Sessegnon has really struggled for game time this season (Transfermarkt).

The youngster has only made six appearances for Spurs in the Premier League this season and has even been left out of matchday squads entirely by Jose Mourinho.

The last time the young Englishman made a Premier League appearance for Spurs was back in January so a loan move next season could be on the cards.

I am very surprised we have not seen more of Sessegnon this season. I would have liked to have seen more of him at left-back, given our issues at full-back. However, it does make you question where his future lies with Mourinho in charge.
